for places

help people know connection is welcome here

being here looks different for every place.

The movement is not only for individuals.

Places - the spaces where people already gather - have a unique opportunity to become somewhere people know they are welcome, through a quiet, visible culture of being here.

What could being here look like?

There is no strict formula.

Each place is invited to discover an approach that feels natural for its people, its environment and the moments already happening there.

Here are a few ideas.

A café

Staff may choose to wear wristbands on days they feel ready.

Regulars begin to notice, and conversations can happen naturally over coffee without anyone needing to wonder whether saying hello is welcome.

An op shop

A weekly tea-and-conversation afternoon.

No agenda. Just a table, a kettle and people who have chosen to make time for one another.

A church

Volunteers may remain available after services to sit with someone who needs a moment with another person.

A workplace

Wristbands, shared lunch tables or informal coffee breaks can help create a culture where conversation feels natural and people are more willing to notice one another.

A library

A quiet corner, a few chairs and a small sign can create a gentle invitation to connect without disrupting the character of the space.

A school or university

Students and staff may choose to wear the wristband as a visible reminder that connection is possible, even in busy and pressured environments.

A community centre

A place that already brings people together can make those gatherings feel a little warmer and more intentional.

How to begin

Start by asking:

What would being here look like for us?

You might order wristbands for a small group, talk together about what it means to be available, approachable and present, and begin in whatever way feels manageable.

Participation should be voluntary, supported by healthy boundaries and shaped around the needs of your place.

Let’s work it out together

You do not need to arrive with a finished plan.

Tell us about your place, the people within it and what you hope to make easier. We would love to work with you to explore the best approach.

Together, we can think through:

  • who may want to participate
  • where and when wristbands could be worn
  • other ways to make conversation feel welcome
  • how to introduce the idea clearly
  • what resources may be useful

Every place will look a little different.

That is part of the idea.
